What is norwalk like virus
The virus affects the patient for normally 24 hours. It takes 12-48 hours to make patient sick. Symptoms are explosive with sickness and/or diahorrea. An explosive sickness episode will infect 50-70% of all persons within 4 meters. It can also be passed on from hand contact and through food, if a food handler gets infected. Anyone sick must be isolated for two days after the last event and have no visitors.

No cure - drink plenty of flat lemonade to keep sugar levels up and prevent dehydration.

Any member of staff who has come down with Sickness & Diarrhoea must be allowed two extra days off work as they are still contagious.

If food handler has come down with Sickness & Diarrhoea the whole kitchen must be disinfected with ready to use Cryocide20 in a spray and wipe surface application.

Your Public Toilets must be inspected every 15 minutes when busy and any sign of sickness or diarrhoea immediately addressed as follows

  • Close the Toilets.
  • Spray thoroughly with Virucidal Air Freshener.
  • Use the Body Spillage Kit as directed.
  • Thoroughly clean down all surfaces with ready to use Virucidal Surface Cleaner.
  • Spray with ready to use Virucidal Air Freshener again.
  • Try to leave for half an hour for Virucidal Air Freshener to settle. No extraction fans on if possible.
  • Use Disposal Protective Clothing.
  • Make sure that anyone struck down with Sickness & Diarrhoea is repatriated to their Hotel/Bed & Breakfast and do not go back on their vehicle.

About 50% of all patients have diarrhoea only; this is easier to contain. Explosive sickness is the greatest risk.
