Hit Squad Checklist

It will be the responsibility of the pre trained Hit Squad to disinfect areas that have been contaminated by virus. The co-ordinator should make the decision of when and where to use the Hit Squad.

Safety precations
The use of infection control equipment has to be strictly monitored should only be used by persons who have been fully trained.

Dress in the protective clothing that has been supplied:

  • Boiler suit
  • Hat
  • Safety goggles
  • Respirator mask
  • Rubber gloves
  • Disposable foot covers

COSHH regulations require regular breaks of five minutes to be taken every thirty minutes.

Always observe the safety information that comes with the equipment and the chemicals.

Bedroom decontamination
To reduce the risk of spreading the virus outside of a contaminated room, ensure that you have all of the equipment required before entering and do not exit until the room is decontaminated.

  • Prepare the Fogger for use with undiluted Cryocide. Plug it into an extension lead from the corridor.
  • All laundry items from affected rooms should be placed in a black bag and sprayed with virucidal spray before sealing the bag. Ensure they are washed separately from other linen in the laundry.
  • Open wardrobe doors and drawers in the chests. Close windows.
  • Enter the bathroom and turn the fogger on and point the spray into the four corners of the room ensuring a light covering vapour lands on all surfaces. Concentrate on the area around and behind the toilet and around the seat hinge.
  • Enter the bedroom and spray into the four corners of the room ensuring a light covering vapour lands on all surfaces. Make sure the vapour is jetted into cupboards and drawers and under beds. Also spray the bin - it may have been used by someone vomiting.
  • Walk backwards towards the door. Keep the fogger running until the bedroom door has closed to ensure that virus particles are not blown into the corridor.

The whole operation should take about a minute. Close the door and leave for 40 minutes. Re enter the room and open all the windows.

Public area disinfection
The routine treatment with the fogging machine in public areas must be strictly controlled. The area should be sealed off, fogged and left for twenty minutes. After that period it is should be safe to enter the room (consult data sheets for the chemicals used).

  • Inspect the Public toilets at 15-minute intervals and clean them at least a four times daily during the early stages of the outbreak.
  • If vomit is present it must be cleared using the Body Spillage Kit . The toilets and other public areas should then be treated with the fogging machine.
  • The same procedure should be used for all public areas including toilets, the dining room, bar, stairways, corridors, lounges and staff accommodation.

After incidents of the illness have stopped the concentration of Cryocide can be reduced to 10 to 1 then 20 to 1.

After use remember to thoroughly clean the machine.
